Holy month of Sawan is dear to Lord Shiva. As per Hindu Panchang, the month of Sawan, commences on the first day of the Shraavan Krishna Paksha.

These sacred days are of immense value for devotees who await the entire year to worship their beloved God. The spirit of devotion and reverence of Bhole Bhandari is always high in the environment filled with enthusiasm.

The month of Sawan will be for two months in this year which will be a very auspicious occasion from an astrological perspective.

Sawan is set to start from July 4 this year and will last till August 31, the holy month will be of a total of 58 days. Such extraordinarily lengthy Sawan is occuring after 19 years. It is worth noting that an extra month, known as Adhik Maas or Mal Maas to Hindus, is affecting the Sawan this year due to astrological calculations.

Devotees wear traditional attire, carry water pots (known as kanwars) on their shoulders, and embark on a pilgrimage known as Kanwar Yatra. This pilgrimage involves walking to sacred rivers, such as the Ganges, and collecting water to offer to Lord Shiva.

Sawan Ke Somwar Dates

Sawan in 2023 will bring a total of 8 sacred Sawan Mondays. These Mondays will fall on the following dates: July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, August 7, August 17, August 21, and August 28. The extended duration of the Sawan month allows Lord Shiva devotees to have more time for worshiping their revered deity, Lord Bholenath. The month of Sawan and the day of Sawan Monday are particularly dear to Lord Shiva.

Sawan is also associated with the monsoon season in India. The arrival of rains during this month is considered a blessing for agriculture and a relief from the summer heat. People celebrate the rain by dancing, singing, and enjoying festive activities.
