A couple who got married recently in Puducherry took the uncommon decision to put a liquor bottle in the ‘thamboolam’ bag given to wedding guests.
Thamboolam’ is basically a traditional return gift given to guests at weddings and typically consists of a combination of fruits, coconut, utensils or sweets.
At a wedding reception of Nirmal and Arathi held in the Bharathi Nagar area in the Union Territory on Wednesday, each Thamboolam bag meant for guests had one 180 ml liquor bottle along with regular items.
While many of them received it with a happy face, some objected to the strange custom. A few relatives even argued with the family, advising them to steer clear of such actions.
