Meghalaya:Cabinet Approves Solar Mission,Gives Nod to Directorate of Forensic Science

The Chief Minister’s Solar Mission was approved by the Conrad Sangma-led State Cabinet on Tuesday.

Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister, spoke to the media and stated that the objective was to have sustainable green energy as well as include it in the balance of energy sources.

According to him, the government will subsidise a specific percentage of the plan for various housing units in rural and urban locations as well as institutional buildings.

Taking on twitter, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said ,’ Through the scheme, the government will support a set percentage of the housing units in both rural and urban areas as well as institutional units. In order for households and institutions to take use of the CMSM, solar hybrid power systems with photovoltaic cells, an inverter, and battery backup will be given. Long-term, this will enable some kind of power stability.’

He further stated that , ‘The Government has decided to create a three member Search Committee, consisting of the Chief Secretary and one representative from each of the Law Department and Personnel Department, in accordance with the notification to establish an Expert Committee for the Review of the Reservation Policy, in order to find experts who will be a part of the Expert Committee.’

Sangma also announced that, ‘Creation of the Directorate of Forensic Science. Previously, there was a Forensic Science Cell that works under the headquarters. As mandated by the Human Rights Commission, the creation of the Directorate will make it independent of the Police Headquarters & come directly under the Home Department.’

In addition to changing the office memorandum from 2022 and establishing a three-member search committee led by the chief secretary to choose members for the expert group to evaluate the reservation policy, the cabinet resolved on Tuesday to move on with the hiring process.

Immediately following the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma made the announcement.
