Malaika Arora stole the limelight at Arjun Kapoor’s birthday celebration on Sunday. The renowned yoga expert and television personality lit up the party with her energetic performance on her popular track ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya.’ Dressed in an elegant white gown featuring side slits, Malaika showcased all her signature dance moves while surrounded by a circle of friends.
She continued dancing with full enthusiasm until the song came to an end.
A video of Malaika’s dance performance at the party was shared by one of the attendees with the caption “Unreal,” and it quickly gained popularity online. Among the guests were Arjun’s sister Anshula Kapoor, cousin Khushi Kapoor, and other close friends. The celebration was held in honour of Arjun’s 38th birthday, which took place on Monday.
The song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ from the film ‘Dil Se’ was sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi. In the iconic song, Malaika danced alongside Shah Rukh Khan on top of a train. The choreography for the song was done by Farah Khan.
During a promotional event for her new dance number ‘Tera Ki Khayal’ with Guru Randhawa in April, Malaika had shared her thoughts about the song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya.’ She expressed, “It’s good that people rejected that song because it turned out to be beneficial for me. I am very happy. I believe in kismet (destiny). I think it was meant to happen. I got to work with the best, right from Farah Khan to Shah Rukh Khan, to Mani Ratnam to AR Rahman to Santosh Sivan. I had the opportunity to work with the best in the business.
Even after 25 years, if you start to think of a song that created a huge impact on the big screen, everybody says that ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ is one of those songs. Even today, people sing and dance on that song. I still get love for that song. So, I am very happy that I got to be a part of such a blockbuster song.”
During an episode of Malaika’s reality show, ‘Moving In With Malaika,’ Malaika and Farah engaged in a conversation about ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya.’ Farah reminded Malaika that she is known as the ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya girl.’ Farah also revealed that Malaika’s opportunity to be part of the song came about because several other actresses had turned down the chance to climb on the train. They had approached actresses like Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Shilpa Shirodkar, but due to various reasons such as phobias or unavailability, Malaika eventually got the opportunity.
Then the makeup person said, Malaika is a very good dancer. When she climbed on the train, we were completely curious whether she would pull it off or not. But the rest as we know is history,” Farah had said.
