Social media platforms such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook were suspended in various parts of Pakistan on Tuesday night amid protests.
Police has clashed repeatedly with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party activists following former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest earlier in the day.
Protesters blocked roads, indulged in arson and even stormed military areas on Tuesday evening, with police firing tear gas and water cannons in retaliation. Against this backdrop, several local media channels said that social media restrictions had been imposed. Meanwhile netblocks indicated that the three websites had also been restricted across the country.
