An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale hit on Monday at around 4.15 am 70km northwest of Yuksom, Sikkim, said National Center for Seismology.
This marks the second earthquake of such magnitude to hold Assam in over 24 hours.
“Earthquake of Magnitude:4.3, Occurred on 13-02-2023, 04:15:04 IST, Lat: 27.81 & Long: 87.71, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 70 km NW of Yuksom, Sikkim, India,” the NCS informed in a tweet.
Earlier on Sunday, an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 hit Nagaon in Assam. It occurred at 4:18 pm in the afternoon at a depth of 10 kilometres. According to the reports, parts of Bangladesh, India, and Bhutan also felt the tremors.
“Earthquake of Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on February 12, 2023, 16:18:17 IST, Lat: 26.10 & Long: 92.72, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nagaon, Assam, India,” National Center for Seismology (NCS) said in a tweet.
Both earthquakes came within 48 hours after a 3.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Surat district in Gujarat. The tremors were recorded at 12:52 am with its epicentre some 27 kilometres west south west (WSW) of Surat, the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) said.
